Become an informed voter

September 2, 2012
William Tempelmeyer, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

As election year approaches it's time for all of us to become better informed voters. We should become more enlightened regarding our Constitution, our system of government and how to bring about the changes we believe are needed. Boys and girls our lesson for today is going to be about the first two amendments to the constitution.

Amendment #1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion and Amendment # 2. The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

I believe that these two amendments to the Constitution should be combined so that any individual may own either a bible or a gun, but not both. I don't mind the gun nuts praying, but when the "Sky God People" take up arms in order to provide the rest of us with "enforced enlightenment" I become concerned.

While we're making up new laws let's pass one that automatically revokes the driver's license of any individual when they put Iowa license plates on their car.

I want my fellow people to remember the rules of journalism as they regard responses to letters to the editor. Responses should not be written in crayon, should have over 57 percent of all words spelled correctly and should contain at least one thought.
