Man accused of trying to strangle wife
A Marshalltown man is in custody after allegedly attempting to strangle his wife Thursday afternoon.
Donald Davis, 81, and his 73-year-old wife got into an argument over family matters at the couple's home on Sixth Avenue just after 3 p.m., said Sgt. Chris Roush, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
The argument escalated to violence, whereupon Davis allegedly grabbed his wife around the neck and attempted to close off her airway, he said. Davis's daughter promptly called police.
The victim declined medical treatment. Davis is charged with aggravated domestic assault, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Local man charged with domestic assault
A local man could face more charges after he allegedly attempted to strangle and threatened to kill his roommate Thursday afternoon.
Police arrested Thomas Vandyke, 43, for aggravated domestic assault after he got into an argument with his 21-year-old roommate over her child, said Sgt. Chris Roush, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
Police arrested Vandyke just before 2:30 p.m. at his home on East State Street. Roush said it is likely Vandyke will also face a first-degree harassment charge for threatening to kill the victim.
Aggravated domestic assault is an aggravated misdemeanor.
David and Elizabeth Wise, of Marshalltown, are the parents of a son, Brandon Michael Wise, born at 10:43 a.m. Aug. 24 weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. He joins brother Nicholas, 5, and sister Olivia, 3. Grandparents are Steve and Deloris Ryan, of Le Grand, Tom and Shelley Wise, of Marshalltown, Dennis and Connie Balk, of Mason City and John and Lee Murray, of Marshalltown.

On Thursday, Bill Simpson, 3 N. 4th Ave., reported the theft and subsequent recovery of merchandise. Estimated value of loss was $6,800.
On Thursday, Tony Joseph Dostal, 1611 S. 4th St., was cited for barking dog.
On Thursday, John Thomas Wallace, 502 E. Main St. Apt. #3, was cited for theft, second degree.
On Thursday, Mindy Lynn Reed, address unknown, was arrested for all other larceny.
On Thursday, Thomas Leo Vandyke, 803 E. State St., was arrested for aggravated domestic assault/strangulation.
On Thursday, Donald Marvin Davis, 9 S. 6th Ave., was arrested for domestic assault/strangulation, aggravated.
On Wednesday, Danny Triplett, 511 W. State St. Apt. #5, was arrested for harassment, first degree.
On Friday, a car driven by Tracy Sue Reed, of Laurel, was southbound on South Sixth Street when it collided with the rear of a minivan driven by Rebecca Jo Morrison, 601 E. 3 St., sending it into a pickup driven by Roger Alan Reed, of Laurel, which were both stopped for a red light at the intersection with Iowa Avenue West. Morrison and Tracy Reed were both possibly injured, but were not treated or transported. Reed was cited for failure to stop within the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Reed car was estimated at $5,000 while the Morrison minivan received an estimated $7,000 in damage and the Reed pickup an estimated $1,000 in damage.
