Football season isn't the only season with a big kickoff this time of year.

The Marshalltown Area United Way is gearing up to launch its 82nd campaign. The effort will open with a luncheon at noon Sept. 13 at the Fisher Community Center.

"It's our official public announcement to the community about our campaign," said Nancy Steveson, executive director of the local United Way office.

The campaign raises money for local service agencies who make a world of difference to people in the area. This year's campaign co-chairs are Ken Anderson, president of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, and Don Turbiville, of R.S. Stover Company.

"They'll talk about the importance of supporting the 32 programs and 25 agencies that we support," Steveson said. "There's definitely a need from those agencies."

A group of musicians from Marshalltown High School will play prelude music at the event and it will also feature this year's campaign video.
