On May 15, 1949, Wayne was united in marriage to Stella Cockerham at the Zearing Christian Church. Following military service Wayne and Stella returned to make Zearing their home and raise their four children Gregg, Denise, Brent and Lance. Wayne entered into farming with his father on his great-grandfather's homestead, delivered fuel for the Farm Service, was a salesman for Piel Manufacturing, and went into carpentry and construction until retirement.

Wayne loved spending his free time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his home and gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling. Wayne was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed a good game. He was active as a 4-H member and leader, involved in the Republican Party, and enjoyed his children's and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. We all enjoyed watching Wayne and Stella on the dance floor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Stella of Zearing; daughter Denise (Ralph) Hill of Sioux Falls, SD; sons Brent Carver and Lance Carver of Zearing; brother Russell Dallas (Bea) Carver of Saint Joseph, MO; daughter-in-law Carrie Fulton Carver of Lakewood, CO; brother-in-law Irvin Cockerham of Nevada, IA; 6 grandchildren: Amber (David) Kabala of Overland Park, KS; Jared (Mindy) Hill of Sioux Falls, SD; Nathan (Shannon) Hill of Overland Park, KS; Drew Carver of Zearing; Jordan and Genna Carver of Lakewood, CO; 16 nieces and nephews and many other loving friends and relatives.
