DUNKERTON - The GMG volleyball team was swept by Dunkerton in both teams' Iowa Star Conference opener, falling 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 on Thursday night.
Leading the way for GMG (1-3, 0-1) was Olivia Barrett with eight kills to go with four blocks and three digs. Autumn Rosacker had 13 digs, Mikaella Koster had 10 digs, Jennifer Borota and Sara Hinson both had nine digs and Peyton Mannan eight. Koster and Mackenzie Burt both had four assists.
Dunkerton (2-2, 1-0) was led by Aubrey Duncan's nine kills and two blocks. The Raiders recorded 17 ace serves in the match paced by Bailey Epling's seven.
JV Bobcats run to ninth, 11th place
The Marshalltown girls' junior varsity cross country team placed ninth out of 11 teams Thursday at the Bobcat Invitational.
Leading the way for MHS was junior Abigail Saucedo as she took 52nd overall with a time of 19 minutes, 41 seconds. Senior Thalia Chavarria and freshman Riley Peterson finished in back-to-back positions, claiming 69th and 70th overall.
Senior Alex Heinrichs took 45th overall in leading the Bobcat boys' team to an 11th-place finish. Also finishing in the top 100 for MHS were senior Joseph Metzger (73rd) and junior Konner Kacmarynski (77th).
In the freshmen/sophomores event, the Bobcats finished ninth and were led by sophomore Trae Petersen in 23rd. Sophomore Andrew Walker placed 51st.
Kiewiet leads Red Raiders to victory
SIOUX CENTER - Northwestern College junior Ryan Kiewiet shot 73-70-143 to earn medalist honors at the two-day Siouxland Invite, which finished up Friday at The Ridge.
Kiewiet, a 2010 Grundy Center graduate, helped to lead the Red Raiders to a 576 team total and first place in the team standings by 22 strokes. Northwestern had the top three individual finishers in the event, as the first round was played on Thursday at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.
