IOWA CITY - The Marshalltown volleyball team dropped two matches to the hosts Saturday at the Iowa City West Invitational but managed big wins over Dyersville-Beckman and Benton Community in pool play.
The Bobcats dropped a three-set match to Iowa City West in pool play 13-21, 21-12, 15-13, and then recorded their two wins in straight sets.
Marshalltown beat Dyersville Beckman 21-17, 21-17, and dumped Benton 21-10, 21-16.
The final match of the day for Marshalltown pitted the Bobcats up against host Iowa City West. This time - playing in the tournament's semifinals - Marshalltown lost in straight sets as the Women of Troy advanced 25-8, 26-24.
In the pool play loss to Iowa City West, senior Lauren Mazour led the Bobcats with eight kills, while senior Eisha Oden added seven kills. Senior Madi Bellile had a team-high 13 assists and three digs.
In the three-game loss to Iowa City West, Oden and Miranda Smith each had eight kills, Mazour added six kills and Bellile finished with 20 assists. Bellile also was a perfect 13-for-13 in serves and finished with two aces. Senior Emily DeVenney and senior Megan Major both had a team-high four digs in the loss.
Senior Morgan Bellile led the Bobcats with four kills in the win against Benton. Twin sister Madi Bellile added 10 assists and was nine-for-nine in serving. The Bobcats totalled just seven digs in the match with DeVenney collecting a team-high two. Mazour, Oden and Brittanie McGrane all had two kills as well.
Against Dyersville Beckman, Mazour had eight kills, Oden finished with seven, while Madi Bellile contributed a team-high 13 assists, three digs and one ace. Morgan Bellile and DeVenney also had three digs. The Bobcats were 38-of-41 in serving in the match.
The Bobcats (5-6) next play at Des Moines on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. The next home match comes against Southeast Polk a week from Tuesday on Sept. 18.
