The Marshalltown City Council appointed Thomas (Tommy) Thompson to serve as mayor at its Monday night meeting.
Thompson will serve as mayor until the November general election. Thompson is one of four candidates on the ballot for the mayoral position in November. John Johnson, Jason Vajgrt and Phillip Gavagan will also appear on the ballot.
Thompson served as Marshalltown mayor from 1992 to 1997.
