The city of Marshalltown lost a great man recently, his name is Gene Beach. He was, among many things, our mayor. As many of you knew Gene, I too came to know him well. He was one of my mentors in many MCT productions of years past. The world was truly his stage and he was one of the best in his love of the local theater and how to best bring our stage alive.
I also came to know Gene as our mayor, and even though we did not always see eye to eye, I felt here too he was a sort of mentor to me. He was always ready in his office to entertain my ideas and thoughts and he was especially patient and would permit me to unload on him with what I saw as a community problem. He could always be counted on to offer me ideas and direction.
I know that today he is watching over his city, family and friends and will continue to have an affect on our lives for years to come.
A great man with a true love of life and a man with pride and purpose just like the city's motto states. Gene Beach, rest well friend until we meet again.
