SPORTS SHORTS: Meskwaki bests GMG in five games

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT - Kadyn Clark had 10 kills and five aces, and Dia Keahna added nine kills, nine digs and three aces as the Meskwaki Settlement volleyball team beat GMG on Tuesday in five games.

The Warriors won 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13 and improved to 2-13 on the season following the win.

Jadyn Davenport contributed eight kils and two aces, Tiana Thompson added five kills and six digs, while Jaylynn Bear finished with three kills and a team-high 13 assists.

Caitlin Appelgate led GMG with four kills and seven blocks, while Sara Hinson added five digs and three kills. Mackenzie Burt contributed six assists, three digs and four aces in the loss, and Olivia Barrett finished with five kills.

Dons sweep North Tama in volleyball

GILBERTVILLE - Kaitlyn McGarvey had 10 kills, seven digs and was 10-of-11 in serving as Don Bosco defeated North Tama in straight sets Tuesday night.

The Dons also got 29 assists and seven digs from Abby Schaefer as Don Bosco won 25-20, 25-10, 25-15.

Allie Zobel finished with nine kills, two digs and two aces to lead North Tama, which dropped to 8-9 after the loss. Shannon Stuart added five kills and four digs in the loss, and Aryn Isenhower had 20 assists, five digs and was 9-of-10 in serving. Shayla Kopriva finished with a team-high nine digs.

Burton knocks in hole-in-one at Union

UNION - Marshalltown native Michael Burton collected a hole-in-one at South Hardin Recreation Golf Course on Saturday.

Burton used a 7-iron on the par-3 seventh hole. Course manager Dan Teckenburg reported the shot, while Chuck Hannahs was a witness.
