Local GOP adopts campaign sign policy

September 25, 2012
Peter Rogers, Chair of the Marshall County Republican Central committee , Times-Republican

Freedom of speech, including political speech, is essential to the peaceful administration of our republican form of government.

In support of that ideal, and to that end, the Marshall County Republican Central Committee adopted the following at its Sept. 18 monthly meeting:

Because, political yard signs are a true expression of political speech and, as such, are accorded the full protection of the constitutions of both the United State of America and the State of Iowa,

and because, the right to own and enjoy ones private property free of trespass, vandalism and other breach of the public peace is protected by tradition and law, we agreed, the Marshall County Republican Central Committee, its agents and supporters, Republican candidates at all levels, their agents and supports, are called upon to leave undisturbed, both now and in the future, the campaign signs and literature of all candidates who hold themselves out for public office.
