FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University graduate Callan Taylor has signed to play professional basketball with Turun Riento in Turku, Finland.
Taylor will be playing in the top division in Finland when the season begins Oct. 6, becoming the eighth former Sacred Heart women's basketball player since 1999 to sign a professional contract overseas.
Taylor played her freshman year of high school basketball in Marshalltown before transferring to Blue Valley North in Overland Park, Kan. She went on to become the Northeast Conference Player of the Year at Sacred Heart in 2011-12, setting career records in rebounding (1,123) and double-doubles (52). Taylor is second on Sacred Heart's career scoring list (1,822), and third in 3-pointers (168) and steals (173).
"We are extremely happy that Callan will have the opportunity to continue her professional career in Finland," said Sacred Heart head coach Ed Swanson. "She has worked extremely hard both on and off the court for this opportunity and we are proud to have her as an ambassador for our program and Sacred Heart University."
Taylor graduated with a degree in exercise science and was named the NEC's Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
