The Grundy County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a man whose body police found Sunday morning.
The sheriff's office has identified the man as Sam Gerloff, 20, of rural New Hartford.
Gerloff rolled his truck when he veered off the road into a ditch attempting to navigate a curve on Y Avenue near Reinbeck sometime before 9 a.m. Sunday, said Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning.
Penning said it is still unknown how long Gerloff was in the ditch before police arrived. Farmers heading to work found his body. His truck was still running when deputies arrived.
While police did find empty alcohol containers in Gerloff's pickup truck, Penning said, it is still unclear whether he had been drinking at the time of the crash.
Although Gerloff was already dead when police arrived, Reinbeck Fire Department and Ambulance assisted the sheriff's office with the call.
