JESUP - Propelled by a 17th place finish from Hannah Stumberg, the Grundy Center girls cross country team placed 12th with a score of 323 at the Jesup Invite Tuesday.
Class 1A No. 2 ranked North Linn took the team title with 109 points. Waverly-Shell Rock (119) and Class 1A No. 9 Central Community (127) rounded out the top three in the 21-team field.
Stumberg crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 12 seconds to guide the Spartans. Erica Buck (17:37) and Jes Ackerson (17:42) placed 65th and 68th respectively. Dalyn Maxson (79th) and Jen Rust (94th) completed Grundy Center's team score. Waverly-Shell Rock's Anna Holdiman won the race in 13:36 finishing well ahead of runner-up Nicole Miller of North Linn who came through in 14:51.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck also competed but did not have enough runners to field a team score.
Nicole Adair led the Rebels placing 74th in 17:49. Also competing for Gladbrook-Reinbeck were Meg Edler (88th) and Hannah Martin (110th).
Powered by a 37th place finish from Espen Cleveland, the Grundy Center boys placed 15th out of 24 schools with 429 points at Jesup.
Class 2A No. 7 ranked Center Point-Urbana outran the competition with a score of 86, edging Class 1A No. 3 Denver (95). Benton Community wrapped up the top three with 125 points.
Cleveland clocked a time of 19:05, while Tyler Harken (20:29) and James Chungu (20:36) placed 76th and 80th respectively. Ian Alexia (104th) and Samuel McKendree (132nd) completed the Spartans team score. Center Point-Urbana's Josh Yeager topped the field in a time of 17:04.
