Man arrested for driving while barred, possessing pot

A Marshalltown man faces drug and driving while barred charges after police pulled him over Friday night.

When the officer stopped Zackery Egge, 24, just after 8 p.m. for a busted tail light and an invalid plate, the officer discovered Egge's license had been barred. The officer also discovered that he has a marijuana pipe in his possession, said Capt. Brian Batterson, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

A subsequent search of Egge's car allegedly revealed him to also have a small quantity of marijuana in his possession.

Police charged Egge with driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Police cited Egge's passenger, Danny Vibbard, 39, of Garwin, with public intoxication when he willfully exited Egge's car.

Man charged with smoking pot with kids in the car

An incident Thursday afternoon has landed a local man three charges of child endangerment and a charge of possession of marijuana.

Diego Villa-Magana, 26, of Marshalltown, was allegedly smoking marijuana in his car in the Hy-Vee parking lot just after noon Thursday. Three children, a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old and 10-month-old girl, were in the back seat, said Capt. Brian Batterson, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Villa-Magana was charged with three counts of child endangerment without injury, aggravated misdemeanors, and possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor.

Local man admits to stealing nearly $700

A local man turned himself in for credit card fraud Thursday.

Corey Alman, 25, of Marshalltown, came into the Marshalltown Police Department and admitted that he has used an acquaintance's credit card to purchase a variety of items totaling nearly $700 between July 19 and Sept. 20, said Capt. Brian Batterson, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Batterson said Alman knew the victim, a 53-year-old woman, through a friend. When police began investigating, that friend confronted him. Alman would later contact police and come in on his own accord to admit the crime.

Police charged Alman with credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor, and released him.

On Sunday, Gary Ekvall, 1310 Marshall Dr., reported damage to a 1955 Chevy Bel Aire and damage to the rear window with scratch damage to the panel and driver's side rear window on a second vehicle while parked at his residence. Estimated damage to both vehicles was $1,450.

On Sunday, Martha Elena Ramirez, 501 W. Boone St., reported the theft of a jewelry box, a 10k gold necklace and a pair of sterling silver earrings from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $185.

On Sunday, Martha Burns. of Danville, Ill., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $100 while at 2613 S. Center St. #111.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Antonia Carlotta, of Beverly Hills, Calif., reported hit and run damage to the driver side rear door on a Infiniti G35 while parked at 609 Fremont St. Estimated value of damage was $500.

On Saturday, Ashley Dillinger, 209 W. Madison St., reported the theft of two cell phones from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $680.

On Saturday, Paul Illum, 1911 Edgebrook Dr., reported damage to the hood of a 2004 Toyota Tundra while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $1,000.

On Saturday, Tim Markham, 1401 S. 7th Ave., reported damage to the driver's side mirror and the gas cap lid on a vehicle while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $150.

On Saturday, Michael Ray Meeker, 1108 W. Iowa Ave. #14, reported the theft of an Alcatel cell phone, 100 Hydrocodone pills and 40 Klonopin pills from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $120.

On Wednesday, Dustin Willey, 1016 S. 6th St., reported the theft of a car stereo, two 12 inch speakers, an amplifier and firearms from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $780.

On Sept. 20, an employee with Construct, Inc., 1710 E. Main St., reported damage to concrete in the amount of $7,525.

Arrests

On Sunday, Michael Andrew Parkin, 310 S. 2nd St., was arrested for public intoxication.

On Saturday, Donald Leroy Schmidt, 1101 Washington St., was arrested for disorderly conduct.

On Saturday, Daniel James Kopriva, of Traer, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

On Saturday, Hector Varela, 1106 Woodbury St., was arrested for dog at large, first-offense.

On Friday, Aaron Eugene Butler, 806 W. Lincoln Way, was arrested for trespass and public intoxication.

On Friday, Danny Lee Vibbard, of Garwin, was arrested for public intoxication.

On Friday, Zachery Tweed Egge, of Le Grand, was arrested for driving while barred, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana.

On Friday, Alejandro Sandoval, 303 S. 5th St., was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana.

On Thursday, Michael Ray Meeker, 1108 W. Iowa Ave. #14, was arrested for public intoxication.

On Thursday, Tonyika Shantel Lewis, 504 Lee St., was arrested for public intoxication.

On Thursday, Diego Villa-Magena, 108 N. 12th St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana and two counts of child endangerment without injury.

Accidents

On Sunday, a car driven by Krystal Diana Diver, of Tama, was northbound on South Center Street at the intersection with Nicholas Drive when it entered the intersection on a red light and collided with a pickup driven by Gwendolyn Lea Mosher, of Melbourne, which was traveling west and into the intersection. No injuries were reported. Diver was cited for no insurance and failure to obey a traffic control device. Mosher was cited for no insurance. Damage to the Diver car was estimated at $5,500 while the Mosher pickup received an estimated $6,000 in damage.

On Saturday, a car driven by Nancy Lee Whitmore, 206 S. 15th Ave., was northbound on South Sixth Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Mark David Bethel, of Ames, which had slowed to allow a non-contact vehicle to turn into a driveway. No injuries were reported. Whitmore was cited for following too close. Damage to the Whitmore car was estimated at $7,000 while the Bethel vehicle received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

On Saturday, a vehicle driven by Derek Joshua Lovan, 1702 S. 7th Ave. Apt. #13, was eastbound in the 600 block of East Anson Street when the driver blacked out for a second, swerved to the right, drove onto the concrete bridge barrier and metal guard rail owned by the City of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Lovan was cited for failure to maintain control and driving under suspension. Damage to the Lovan vehicle was estimated at $2,000 while the concrete barrier and guard rail received an estimated $500 in damage.

On Saturday, a car driven by Scott Alan Anderson, of Melbourne, was northbound on South Center Street at the intersection with Ingledue Street when it collided with the rear of a minivan driven by Beatriz Gomez, 105 S. 1st St. Apt. #2, which was also northbound and had slowed to make a left turn onto Ingledue Street. Gomez and a passenger were transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with injuries. Anderson was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $5,000 each.

On Thursday, a car driven by Duane Arthur Lang, 2763 Garwin Rd., was exiting the Redemption Center onto East Nevada Street when it went around a barrier and drove through uncured concrete owned by Construct, Inc., 1710 E. Main St., and then left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Construct, Inc. concrete was estimated at $7,525.
