Marshalltown High School senior wide receiver Tad Steffensen had knee surgery Friday to repair a torn ACL, counting him out for the remainder of the 2012 football season.

The Bobcats (5-2, 2-0) play tonight in a Class 4A Division 3 game at Mason City (1-7, 1-2), but one of the state's leading receivers will not be in action. Steffensen confirmed to the T-R today that the original injury was sustained during his top performance of the season, a 193-yard receiving night against Ottumwa three weeks ago. He aggravated the injury the following week in a rout of Des Moines Hoover.

The 6-foot, 180-pound senior entered Friday as the state's most prolific pass catcher with 61 receptions. Steffensen is also the fourth-leading receiver in yards (879). He will not be in action as the Bobcats close out the regular season at home next Friday against Dowling Catholic, nor will he play in Marshalltown's fourth consecutive state playoff berth.
