The Melbourne police chief was suspended from his position Friday night after it was apparently revealed he is the subject of a state investigation.
Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents are reportedly investigating Mike Ball, who is also a part-time officer in Rhodes. Ball was fired from the state-run Residential Center in Marshalltown earlier this month, according to a Des Moines Register report. Ball served as a residential officer at the facility, according to the Department of Corrections.
DCI did not return a call by press time on Saturday.
Sharon Greer, city attorney for Melbourne and Marshalltown resident, also declined to return calls for comment on Saturday.
Melbourne City Council member John White said the council was directed to let Greer handle all media inquiries.
