SPENCER - The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team broke a scoreless tie 2 minutes into the second half and held the one-goal advantage the rest of the way for a 1-0 triumph over Iowa Lakes on Saturday in ICCAC play.
It was the second win over the Lakers in as many meetings for MCC, which posted a 4-0 rout in their first meeting.
The loss was the fifth straight for Iowa Lakes (6-11, 3-7).
Javier Lopez scored on a shot from inside the goal area on a pass from Tony Kaune in the 47th minute, putting the Tigers in front for good. Alfredo Piedra made three saves in net for the shutout, which locked up third place in the ICCAC standings for MCC (10-4-1, 7-3-0).
"I thought that we dominated completely with possession and several scoring chances," said Tiger head coach Rafael Martinez. "It was a good overall team performance, so we're very happy to come away with the win.
"I think we're growing at the right time before playoffs."
Marshalltown plays its final regular season home game on Wednesday at 4 p.m., hosting NJCAA Division I No. 11-ranked Iowa Central (12-1-1, 7-1-1) in league play. The Tritons topped MCC 2-0 in their first meeting Sept. 22 in Fort Dodge.
