The Marshalltown Senior Citizens Center will celebrate 40 years in existence with a public open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event will feature refreshments and a craft sale and is meant to inform those ages 55 and older about the center's offerings.

"We're proud of the fact that we made it 40 years and we want to make it another 40 years," said Bobbi Reeder, director of the center.

Visitors to the Senior Citizens Center in Marshalltown take part in a card tournament Monday. The center will host a 40th anniversary open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The center features a wide range of activities including card games, shuffleboard, crafts and sewing. Reeder said they are always open and always welcoming to new visitors.

She expects even more visitors in the next few years as the Baby Boomer population ages.

"I think our center is going to be more and more important as the years go by," Reeder said.
