A growing church family and a need for more space are good things as far as Evangelical Free Church is concerned

The facility on South Sixth Street is undergoing a $1.2 project, which includes a new addition as well as renovation of existing space.

The new addition will feature classrooms for adults and the previous adult classrooms will be renovated for a much-needed expanded children's area.

The addition and remodeling project at Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown is expected to be completed by the middle of 2013.

"The initial incentive was the need to provide space for the growing number of school-age children," said Bob Kosbau, senior pastor at E-Free Church.

A church member is acting as general contractor of the project, with much of the work being contracted out. Kosbau said in some cases church members are rolling up their sleeves and doing their part during the project.

"I just continue to be amazed at the number of volunteers that give of their time," Kosbau said.

The project is expected to be completed sometime in the middle of 2013 and the new addition is 165 feet by 38 feet. The addition is expected to be enclosed within the next few weeks so interior work can go on during the winter months.

The church has spent 10 years in the former warehouse and members are enthused that improvements continue to be made with the growing membership.

"Overall, the congregation is very excited about the fact there has been a need for more space," Kosbau said.
