Arlene Schmiedel, 76, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away at her home Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
Arlene was born July 12, 1936 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Dorothy Linsenmeyer. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1954 with her husband to be, Dr. Gilbert Schmiedel. They were married December 30, 1955. She was very active in some of the student organizations at Palmer College of Chiropractic, serving as advisor to the Student Women's Auxiliary of the International Chiropractors Association for many years. She was also a member of the Sigma Phi Chi Sorority at Palmer College. She later served as Treasurer of the Women's Auxiliary of the International Chiropractors Association. She enjoyed hosting the many parties and picnics at the Schmiedel residence for several Palmer student organizations to which her husband was an advisor as professor at Palmer College. Her favorite form of relaxation was to sit behind a slot machine at the Isle of Capri Riverboat Casino in Bettendorf, where she developed many good friendships. She was also an avid sports fan and spent many hours with her husband watching their favorite teams play baseball, football and basketball.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, her sister Beverly Betts and niece Troi.
Services in celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 29th, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 1 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or Palmer Student Council Scholarship Fund.
