The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team found the going tough and never got going.
The Tigers saw ran into a pair of ranked teams during Friday's opening set of matches in the ICCAC Showcase tournament, falling twice in straight sets. The losses carried over to Saturday, when MCC was swept by Southwestern (25-7, 25-13, 25-7) before sustaining a 3-1 loss to Iowa Lakes (24-26, 25-21, 25-13, 25-23).
In the loss to Southwestern, MCC was led by Mady Van Metre's nine kills and eight more from Breanna Cortez. Tanya Literski finished with 24 assists while libero player Ashley Salgado had 14 digs.
Van Metre and Katelyn Yauslin both recorded 17 kills in the loss to Iowa Lakes. Cortez contributed nine kills as well.
Literski finished with 39 assists and 13 digs to make it a double-double, while Salgado tallied 30 digs and three service aces.
NJCAA Region XI tournament play begins on Tuesday and concludes on Saturday at Ellworth Community College in Iowa Falls.
