One of the passengers involved in a car crash Thursday morning died after being air lifted to Des Moines.

Paramedics flew three people, including an infant, to Methodist Medical Center and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines Thursday after the SUV in which they were riding careened off the road and ended up in Linn Creek just before 2 a.m., said Sgt. Rick Bellile, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Three other passengers were in the Chevy Blazer when it inexplicable left the road while heading east on East State Street near 13th Avenue.

Three of the six passengers suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. Emergency personal from Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center and Marshalltown Fire Department treated the crash victims on scene before EMTs transported them to MMSC for additional treatment.

Bellile said two of the three people were treated locally and released.

The names, genders, hometowns and ages of the victims were unavailable at press time.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office and City of Marshalltown Engineers Office also assisted the MPD with the crash.

Police do not know what caused the accident, who was driving at the time of the crash or whether the passengers were wearing seat belts. MPD will continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
