Six members of the Marshalltown High School football team were selected to the Class 4A Division 3 football first-team squad, as voted by the league's coaches.

Three members of the Marshalltown offense were joined by three key members of the Bobcat defense.

Senior Blake Gimbel made the team as quarterback, while wide receivers Tad Steffensen and De'Quan McDowell both made the first unit. The three defensive stalwarts were linebacker Tyler Kluver and defensive linemen Pedro Gomez and Nick Whaley.

Gimbel led the entire state of Iowa in passing yards with 3,979, which was the exact same number he threw for in 2011 when he set the state passing record for yards in a season. He also threw 35 touchdowns, seven interceptions and completed 61 percent of his passes.

McDowell and Steffensen made the first team as part of the Bobcat passing game.

Before a season-ending knee injury, Steffensen was leading the state in receiving yards and receptions. He finished with 61 catches for 879 yards and nine touchdowns. McDowell finished fourth in the state in receiving yards with 1,185, first in receptions with 80 and also grabbed nine touchdowns. Pettigrew also added to that potent passing game as he finished with 1,007 yards, 65 catches and eight scores.
