Sen. Steve Sodders, D-State Center, has saved his seat in the senate by defeating Republican challenger Jane Jech in a tight race.
Sodders landed 54 percent of the vote while Jech managed to obtain 46 percent.
Jech narrowly defeated Sodders in La Porte City (Black Hawk County) by 17 votes. Sodders claimed victories in both Tama and Marshall counties.
