Police have charged the driver of the car that careened into Linn Creek Thursday morning, killing two people including an infant.
Armando Chavarria, 22, faces two counts of vehicular homicide, Class B felonies, and a count of serious injury by vehicle, a Class D felony.
The crash killed 4-month-old Dylan Quezada and Chendo Quezada, 20. Three other people were in the car when it left the road just before 2 a.m. Gabriela Nunez-Lasso, Chavarria's girlfriend and mother to Dylan Quezada and 5-year-old Yara Hernandez-Nunez. Nancy Nunez, 17, is Nunez-Lasso's sister.
Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said the group was leaving a Halloween party when the crash occurred.
Lab reports as to whether alcohol was involved have yet to come back, Hanken said. More charges could be forthcoming. Police conducted a search warrant of the Chevy Blazer and recovered some evidence since the crash.
"How and why the vehicle left the roadway those are the big factors that we are looking into," Hanken said. "What events led up to that point in time."
Nunez remains at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Doctors have treated and released Hernandez-Nunez.
Charvarria's bond is set at $100,000 cash only. A Class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Police will continue the investigation.
