Redhawks rack up top District 4 awards

The most prolific quarterback and the top tackler in Class A football were awarded the top honors with the release of the all-District 4 teams.

North Tama seniors Jacob Wrage and Nolan Hefty were chosen as the Most Valuable Players for offensive and defense, respectively, on the all-Class A District 4 squad as voted by the league's coaches.

Prior to today's state semifinal round, Wrage leads all of Class A in yards passing and rushing combined, having gained 2,933 yards in 11 games for the district champion Redhawks. The left-handed quarterback stands second in passing yards (2,281) and touchdowns (24).

Hefty, North Tama's standout linebacker, totaled 60 solo and 122 assisted tackles to lead all of Class A with 182 stops.

First-year head coach Dan Oltman of North Tama was named the district's Coach of the Year, as well, after leading the Redhawks (9-2) to the second round of the state playoffs.

Grundy Center junior Jordan Clapp was named the district's top punter, while Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior Wyatt Swanson was selected the top placekicker.

In all, 19 of the 28 all-District 4 first team selections are from area schools. North Tama, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Grundy Center, BCLUW and GMG all competed in the seven-team league.

The fifth-ranked Redhawks had seven first-team selections, not including Wrage and Hefty. Fellow seniors Mitchell Boerm, Brent Billerbeck, Dalton Hulme, Skyler Kvidera, Jacob Watson, Trey Keahna and Damon Spencer were picked from North Tama.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck, which finished second in the district, had two seniors among its five first-team selections. Quarterback Trevor Trunck and linebacker Jackson Clark were honored for the Rebels, as were juniors Pete Meyers (offensive line) and Chase Clark (running back) and sophomore Zach Pierce (defensive line).

Three of Grundy Center's four first-team honorees were seniors: linebacker Conner Noteboom, nose guard Austin Sawyer and strong safety Dylan Lyman. Junior Brady Hook, a defensive tackle, also was selected.

BCLUW placed two players on the all-district first team in senior fullback/linebacker Deonce Cushinberry and sophomore defensive lineman Blake Cooper.

GMG senior Blake Warren, a tailback, was the Wolverines' lone first-team representative.
