Wendell Straka, 75, of Marshalltown, formerly of rural Garwin, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home at the Embers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 14th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery north of LeGrand. Born on May 18th, 1937, in Marshalltown, he was the son of John and Hilda (Poduska) Straka. When his mother died at a young age, his aunt (his mother's sister) Gladys Rose Poduska raised him.
He graduated from the LeGrand High School's Class of 1955. Soon after graduation, he served our country honorably in the United States Army National Guard. Later, Wendell was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad for 26 years until retiring. He was previously employed with Strand Baking and Dunham-Bush.
Surviving are close friends, Bob and Donna Tichy and family of rural Garwin, cousins, and his neighbors and friends at the Embers.
He has rejoined his parents in death.
