Box leads Comets past GMG girls

CONRAD - BCLUW senior Reeba Box scored a career-high 21 points and the Comets opened the girls' basketball campaign with a 47-26 victory over GMG on Friday night.

Box led three Comets scoring in double figures and also had team-highs of eight rebounds and seven steals in the victory.

Freshman Olivia Callaway had 12 points and six rebounds in her first prep game, and Sarah McCoy chipped in 10 points and four steals for BCLUW.

The Comets took a 20-18 lead into the half but outscored GMG 18-2 in the third period to pull away for good.

GMG sophomore Olivia Barritt poured in a career-best 14 points to lead the Wolverines. Caitlin Appelgate added six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, with GMG playing its home opener against South Hardin and the Comets going on the road to face Dike-New Hartford.
