BLACKSBURG, Va. - Regrouping from its first loss of the season, the Iowa men's basketball team look to extend the courtesy to undefeated Virginia Tech Tuesday.
The Hawkeyes (5-1) face the Hokies (5-0) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with tip-off slated for 6:17 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
Roy Devyn Marble, who leads the Hawks at 13.6 points per game and has scored in double-figures in all six contests, will try to help Iowa snap a six-game slide in the annual challenge with their last victory coming over North Carolina State in 2005.
To do that, the Hawks must stop - or at least slow down Virginia Tech point guard Erick Green who is tied for third in the nation at 24.4 points a game. Green has done much of his damage from the line knocking down 44-of-51 free throws.
The Hokies' prolific attack is averaging 85.4 points a game, 12th best in the country, and has scored 80 points or more in four of five games, including two where they eclipsed 95. The Hawks have allowed just 56.3 points per contest and have held opponents to a 34.7 percent clip from the field.
Virginia Tech owns a 2-0 edge in the series winning 69-65 in Blacksburg in 2006 and topping the Hawks 70-64 in Iowa City in 2009.
The Big Ten, which is seeking its fourth straight victory in the series after dropping the previous 10, won last year's challenge 8-4.
