ANAHEIM, Calif. - Xavier used an 11-0 run during the second half to take a lead that the Drake men's basketball team could not overcome, and the Musketeers collected a 74-70 victory in the finale of the DirecTV Classic on Sunday morning.

The Bulldogs clawed back to within two points with 7:26 remaining but Xavier eventually stretched the margin to double digits.

The Musketeers (5-1) shot 9-for-10 from the free-throw line over the final 1:04 to keep Drake at bay, maintaining a lead that a technical foul on Bulldogs head coach Mark Phelps helped them to gain. Xavier's advantage ballooned from five to 11 after the technical, and only Micah Mason's 3-pointer to beat the buzzer slimmed Drake's final deficit below five points.

Joey King came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs (2-3) with a career-high 21 points, sparked by 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.

Ben Simons added 15 of his 20 points in the second half, while Jordan Clarke had a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Clarke was named to the all-tournament team after setting an event record with 39 rebounds, charting double-doubles in all three games.

"We went through a stretch in the second half that ended up determining the game," Phelps said of Xavier's 11-0 surge. "We couldn't score and we couldn't keep them from scoring. Like all games against good teams, you can't afford a stretch like that where you aren't getting it done on either end of the court."
