Man charged with $2,700 vandalism

Police arrested a Marshalltown man Monday for allegedly ramming his truck into the truck trailer of a local man.

Jason Nauman, 30, faces charges of second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony, after he allegedly caused more than $2,700 damage to the 28-year-old victim's trailer in late October, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

According to police reports, the investigation determined that Nauman was in the 1100 block of West Church Street where the incident occurred at the time of the incident, the tread on his tires matched marks found at the scene and paint recovered from his truck matched the victim's trailer.

Local sex offender charged with living too close to daycare

A local sex offender faces charges of failure to comply after police discovered him living within 2,000 feet of a daycare.

Police arrested Nathan Bagur, 30, of Marshalltown, Monday after he failed to vacate the Franklin Motel, 1108 Iowa Ave. W.

On Oct. 9, police gave Bagur 30 days to leave the motel after they discovered it was too close for Bagur, who was convicted of third-degree sexual abuse involving a minor in 1998, to Joan's Daycare, 3101 S. Eighth Ave., said Capt. Chris Jones, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Bagur is charged with failure to comply, a Class D felony due to a prior conviction.

Accidents

On Thursday, a car driven by Marc-Etienne Moreau, Levis, Ontario, Canada, was westbound in the 100 block of West Iowa Avenue when in an attempt to turn into left into the parking lot at the Hampton Inn it went out of control while the driver was occupied with his cell phone and exited the right side of the roadway striking a small wooden pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Moreau car was estimated at $3,500.

On Nov. 21, a pickup driven by Lindsay Allan Naylor, 112 W. Grant St., was exiting a parking spot in an alleyway when it collided with car driven by Julie Ann Winters, 508 N. 1st St., which was traveling through the alley. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Naylor pickup was estimated at $300 while the Winters car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

On Nov. 21, a vehicle driven by Alfredo Guevara-Castillo, 410 N. 1st Ave., was southbound on North First Street approaching the intersection with State Street when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Dwayne Edward Oliver, 809 S. 7th Ave., which was slowing to a stop. Passenger Darrell Desha Jordan, of Postville, was possibly injured, but not treated. Guevara-Castillo was cited for following too closely. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $800 each.

On Nov. 20, a vehicle driven by Daniel Martinez, 411 May St., was westbound on East South Street approaching the intersection with South Third Avenue when it went through the stop sign and collided in the intersection with a car driven by Jordyn Lynn Simbides, 2332 Luray Rd., which was traveling north on Third Avenue. No injuries were reported. Martinez was cited for failure to obey a stop and yield right of way. Damage to the Martinez vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the Simbides car received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

On Nov. 20, a pickup driven by Jacob John Fangmann, of Rowley, was northbound on Highland Acres Road approaching West Main Street when, due to a vehicle approaching with its highbeams on, missed the "T" intersection, drove into the north ditch and struck a tree. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Fangmann pickup was estimated at $20,000.

On Nov. 20, a car driven by Joseph Vincent Sims, 1505 Fremont St., was exiting a parking spot in the 1300 W. Main Street area when it sideswiped a road paver sitting in the 10 block of North 13th Street which was out of vehicle traffic. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sims car was estimated at $2,000 while the road paver received an estimated $100 in damage.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three false alarms at: 125 S. 11th St., 309 E. Church St., and 1602 S. 2nd Ave., an outside rubbish fire to 2200 Summit St., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 915 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard, 2802 S. Center St., 1702 S. 7th Ave., 101 NewCastle Rd., and 1500 Lincoln Towers Circle.

Thursday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1700 Sanford Ave., smoke or odor removal at 1703 Hillcrest Dr., smoke detector activation-no-fire-unintentional at 101 NewCastle Rd., unauthorized burning at 505 N. Center St., brush or brush-grass mixture fire at 1108 W. Iowa Ave., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 406 Eastview Dr., and 403 N. Center St.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched-cancelled en route to 402 N. 10th Ave., an extrication of victims from vehicle on Highway 30, an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 111 E. Linn St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1509 E. Marion St., 1908 Summit St., 102 S. 7th Ave., and 22 N. Center St.

Arrests

On Thursday, Bryan Beenken, age 38, of Grundy Center, was arrested for domestic abuse assault. He posted bond and was released.

On Nov. 21, Kent Segebart, age 39, of Lake City, was arrested by Calhoun County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with failure to appear. He posted bond and was released.

On Nov. 18, Rochelle Smitherman, age 52, of Gladbrook, was arrested by Marshall County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging her with failure to appear. She posted bond and was released.

Accidents

On Nov. 21, a vehicle driven by Tiffany Roussel, age 18, of New Providence, was westbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Roussel vehicle was estimated at $2,500.
