Victoria Dawn Martin, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $81 in court costs for a total of $418.50, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Dec. 26 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge Martin may do 46 hours of community service plus pay court costs to be completed by May 31, 2013.

Martin Minjares-Bonilla, 112 N. 7th Ave., made an initial appearance on a failure to have a valid driver's license charge and a driving under suspension-SR22 insurance charge. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 18 in Magistrate Court. Minjares-Bonilla will hire his own counsel.

Scott Alan Abernathy, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge and a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. On the probation violation charge the court appointed the public defender's office to represent him. The probation revocation hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 10. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

In the failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge the court appointed Norma Meade to represent Abernathy. The contempt hearing is rescheduled for 9 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2013 in District Court. Bond is set at $500 cash only.

The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 17. Osborn was released on her own recognizance. The court ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Leydie Mejia, 803 Woodbury St., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 17. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Rodney Brian Balvanz, 208 Glenda Dr. Apt. #6, made an initial appearance on a interference with official acts charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Dec. 27 until the debt is paid.

Gene Skoky Strohm, of Albion, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a speeding charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving under suspension charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately. The fine on the speeding charge was $90 with a $31.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $181.50, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Dec. 27 until the debts are paid.

Friday

Dustin Umbaugh, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a assault causing serious injury charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on Dec. 10. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Zachary John Umbaugh, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a burglary-second degree charge and a serious assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 10. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Eric Burns, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 18. Blumer was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that Blumer be photographed and fingerprinted at the Marshall County Sheriff's Office. A substance abuse evaluation was also ordered and the results are to be submitted to the court within 60 days.

Incidents

On Thursday, Raul Moreno-Magana, 707 E. State St., reported damage to a left rear window on a GMC Yukon while parked at his residence and the theft of 12 inch Kicker L-7 subwoofers. Estimated value of loss was $900.

On Nov. 24, Amy Patton, 103 W. South St., reported the theft of a Polanti watch and a Fossil watch from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $1,560.

Citations

On Wednesday, Nov. 28, Ryon Anthony Gary, 1002 S. 6th St., was cited for dog at large.

Arrests

On Wednesday, Jesus Miguel Pacheco, 1509 Marion St. Apt. C-3, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order-contempt.

On Sunday, Wol Reec Wol, 134 E. Main St. Apt. #428, was arrested for public intoxication-enhanced.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an unauthorized burning at 518 S. 5th St., an excessive heat-scorch burns with no ignition at 203 N. 21st St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 111 N. 3rd Ave., 2205 Bittersweet Rd., 206 Nicholas Dr., and 209 N. 1st Ave.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 309 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard, and 11 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 406 N. 3rd Ave., 520 N. 2nd St., 320 Harrison Dr., 9 S. 6th Ave., 207 N. 16th St., 101 NewCastle Rd., 402 N. 10th Ave., 802 S. Center St., 919 S. 7th Ave., 402 N. 10th Ave., and 125 S. 11th St.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a good intent call at 601 E. Church St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 327 S. 3rd Ave., 101 Iowa Ave., and two calls to 1 W. Grant St.
