DES MOINES - Drake simply dominated the paint.
The Bulldog women's basketball team outscored Chicago State 40-8 in the lane and doubled up the Cougars in rebounding, running away with a 67-39 victory Sunday inside the Knapp Center.
Drake doubled up on Chicago State on the boards, controlling a 58-29 advantage that included 17 offensive rebounds. The Bulldogs had 14 of them in the first half but converted those second chances into only four points, however, and led just 26-17 at halftime.
A 41-22 second-half advantage for Drake put the game out of reach for Chicago State (1-5).
"I think we opened up the second half with great energy," said Drake coach Jennie Baranczyk. "We really took it to them and picked up our intensity and we had some great team basketball. I thought today overall was a great team effort."
Drake (2-4) had three players reach double figures, led by Morgan Reid's 12 points. Kyndal Clark had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Stephanie Running added 10 points.
Carly Grenfell knocked down three 3-pointers for nine points, while Alyssa Marschner totaled six points, eight boards and eight assists as the Bulldogs ended a three-game skid.
The Cougars were led by Tierra Williams' career-high 19 points coming off the bench, accounting for nearly half of the team's points. Chicago State's five starters combined to score just 20 points on 7-of-39 shooting.
Chicago State will play Tuesday night at Northern Iowa, while Drake goes to North Dakota State on Thursday and at North Dakota Saturday.
