TRAER - Eleven different players scored as Class 1A No. 9-ranked North Tama ran away from Meskwaki and claimed an 88-51 victory over the visiting Warriors in Iowa Star Conference action Tuesday.
The Redhawks (4-0, 3-0) scored their season-high output behind a 59-point first half total. They scored 37 points in the second quarter alone to take a 32-point lead into the locker room.
Jacob Wrage had 19 points, seven steals and five assists for North Tama, while Mitchell Boerm poured in 17 points. Skyler Kvidera added 12 points and Nolan Hefty netted 10.
Dalton Hulme also contributed six points and seven assists, while Jacob Watson and Paul Kaufmann led the Redhawks with seven rebounds apiece.
Corey Dye led Meskwaki (2-2, 1-2) with 14 points while Tyus Grant had 12 points. Darrion Murray chipped in seven points and Cordell Bear added six for the Warriors, who play Friday at Don Bosco.
North Tama takes its sterling record to Waterloo Christian on Friday night before hosting Grundy Center in non-conference play Saturday.
GMG 74, Waterloo Christian 42
WATERLOO - Chad Plaehn poured in a career-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds as the GMG boys beat up Waterloo Christian, 74-42, in Iowa Star play.
Luke Petty added 15 points, Blake Warren had nine points and six assists, and Bridger Claassen chipped in eight points. Brock Fisher pitched in six points and six boards as well for GMG (2-0, 2-0), which plays its home opener Friday night against Colo-NESCO.
Tim Doering led Waterloo Christian (0-3, 0-3) with 14 points.
South Tama 81, East Marshall 63
TAMA - Four double-digit scoring performances gave the South Tama boys' basketball team an 81-63 victory over East Marshall on Tuesday in NICL West Division play.
Vinny Lasley led the host Trojans (2-1, 2-0) with 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Jose Fonseca knocked down 20 points, while Sam Kuhter had 14 points and Grant Koch 10. Taylor Johnson pitched in with four points and seven boards.
East Marshall's Ben Terrones dropped in a career-best 24 points, while Mitch Berry had 12 for the Mustangs (0-2, 0-2). Zack Johnson added seven points and a team-high six rebounds.
South Tama goes out on the road Friday for a league tilt at West Marshall, while East Marshall entertains Grundy Center.
West Marshall 43, Grundy Center 29
GRUNDY CENTER - Duncan Ferch scored a game-high 19 points to lead West Marshall to a 43-29 triumph in Tuesday's NICL West pairing.
Matt Van Metre added nine points for the Trojans (2-1, 2-0), while Christian Vis and Colby Dunn both led the way with six rebounds.
Dylan Lyman scored eight points and Brady Hook seven for Grundy Center (0-2, 0-2).
