STATE CENTER - Shelby Anthony knocked down four 3-pointers in the first half and the Class 1A No. 15 Colo-NESCO girls' basketball team avenged an earlier-season loss to West Marshall with a 44-33 victory over the Trojans on Saturday night.
Madison Eley led the way with 14 points, making a pair of 3-pointers too, for the Royals (6-1). Madison Farren and Shayla Dean both scored six points, while Dean tallied five assists, five steals and five rebounds.
Colo-NESCO scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed.
Sydney Beals led West Marshall with 12 points and nine steals to go with seven rebounds. Jennifer Davis had eight points and a team-leading 10 rebounds, while Whitney Benson had six points and McKenna Hotopp had four points and four steals for the Trojans (5-2).
Colo-NESCO hosts Meskwaki in Tuesday's Iowa Star Conference contest, while West Marshall entertains BCLUW in NICL West Division play.
Grundy Center 56, North Tama 40
TRAER - The Class 1A No. 6-ranked Grundy Center girls' basketball team got back on the winning track with a fast start against North Tama, topping the Redhawks 56-40 on Saturday night.
Two nights after suffering a decisive loss to 2A No. 4 Aplington-Parkersburg, the Spartans outscored North Tama 26-10 in the first quarter and maintained the double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Sam Meyers scored a season-high 24 points to pace Grundy Center (5-1), while Heather Hook also achieved her season best with 16 points. Ally Jansen chipped in with six points and Riley Ackerman had five.
Allison Zobel led North Tama (1-5) with 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Josie Youel had six points and seven boards, Emma Knoop had six points and five rebounds, and Sam Zobel added five points, five boards and four steals.
