TRAER - Class 1A No. 9-ranked North Tama held Grundy Center scoreless in the third quarter to complete its comeback from an early deficit and defeat the Spartans 59-40 in Saturday's non-conference boys' basketball game in Redhawk Country.
Skyler Kvidera led the Redhawks (6-0) with a double-double, collecting 16 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Jacob Wrage and Dalton Hulme both had 12 points, Nolan Hefty had eight points and 11 rebounds, and Mitchell Boerm stuffed the stat sheet with six points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
North Tama trailed 23-17 after the first quarter but rallied to tie the game at 29-all at the half before outscoring the Spartans 17-0 in the third.
Grundy Center (0-5) was led by Dylan Lyman's 12 points. Riley Wells had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Elliot Eggleston and Lane Bangasser both had six points.
North Tama goes to GMG for Tuesday's Iowa Star Conference showdown while Grundy Center travels to nearby rival Gladbrook-Reinbeck in NICL West Division play.
West Marshall 51, Colo-NESCO 31
STATE CENTER - West Marshall charged out to a 17-5 lead after the first quarter and kept former Heart of Iowa Conference rival Colo-NESCO at bay, winning 51-31 in Saturday's non-conference battle.
Duncan Ferch led West Marshall with 15 points and five rebounds. Jake Pszanka contributed eight points, four steals and two assists, while Reggie Gradwell, Tyler O'Donnell and Matt Van Metre each chipped in six points for the Trojans (4-1).
Brandyn Niemeyer notched a team-leading 11 points and eight rebounds for Colo-NESCO (3-3). Brady Stoeffler added six points and Grant Tiarks had four for the Royals, who host Meskwaki in Iowa Star Conference play Tuesday.
West Marshall entertains BCLUW in NICL West action to start a three-game week.
