After seven years at 107 E. Meadow Lane, Stucky's Vacuum is moving downtown.

Owners Dean and Denise Stucky are moving to the former Mary Katherine's Bridal location, 119 E. Main St.

They are planning to be open for business at the new site Feb. 1, but it will require much effort and coordination.

Dean Stucky, left, owner-operator of Marshalltown’s Best Vacuum Store & More, 107 E. Meadow Ln., shares a lighter moment with spouse Denise Stucky as they demonstrate vacuums at their store Monday afternoon. The business will be moving downtown to the former Mary Katherine’s Katherine’s Bridal & Dressy Attire property at 119 E. Main St.

"We'll be working on the move every day and every night in January," said Dean.

Additionally, an annual store inventory must be completed before the move.

Finally, they must make the new site compatible to house their vacuum cleaner sales, service, and candle-making enterprises.

The Stuckys emphasized that the service and supply portion of the business will remain.

"We will continue to sell bags, belts, and service for vacuums we do and don't sell here," Denise said.

The Stuckys also sell and service central vacuum systems which has been attractive to people building new homes or additions.

Not part of the move will be son Jordan's carpet cleaning business.

He is going out on his own.

"We'll still be helping with scheduling," Dean said. "But Jordan will be handling everything else."

The Stuckys have had their eye on downtown for some time and finally, things broke their way to make it a reality.

While the new site will have less square feet, there are other amenities which will make the move worthwhile.

The downtown property has a much larger display area in front.

This will enable the business to carry more inventory in addition to existing brands Lindhaus, Hoover, Riccar and Royal.

"We'll be selling more of the mid to lower-priced vacuums," Denise said. "We work on a budget, and so do many folks ... we want to help them find the vacuum that meets their needs."

The Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars purchased the 107 E. Meadow Lane property and will remodel to suit the club's needs, according to member Larry Larson.

"We think our downtown location will be fantastic," Denise said. "Dean and I grew up in families with small businesses so we know what to expect. There is parking in back and in front. The move will be a lot of work, but in the long run it will be worth it."

Welcoming the Stuckys in advance was the Marshalltown Central Business District.

"We are excited that Best Vacuum & More will be moving to downtown Marshalltown in the near future," said Wanda Evans of MCBD. "The business will be another plus."
