AMES - Backed by 11 3-pointers and five players in double figures, the Ames girls basketball team upended Marshalltown, 69-32, on Friday.
The former state-ranked Little Cyclones got 15 points apiece from Division I recruit Shaya Kellogg and Jamie Steyer in the win, while Kiana Peterson, Ashley Ray and Molly Sanders chipped in 13, 12 and 10, resepectively.
It was the third straight loss for the Bobcats, who fell to 2-7 following the loss.
Eisha Oden was 0-for-5 from the line but finished with a team-high 12 points, while Amanda Hughes added nine in the loss. The Bobcats are now 1-1 in division play.
Ames made just one more field goal than Marshalltown but scored 30 more points off 3-pointers and five more points from the line. The Little Cyclones were 6-for-11 from the charity stripe, while Marshalltown made just 1-of-9 from the line.
The Bobcats will next play at the Roundhouse at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday against Class 4A No. 8 Southeast Polk. The Rams were the preseason No. 1 team.
