Laura Roberts, 105, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at the State Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, formerly Estel Perin Avey Funeral Home, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at the State Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, in Newton. Laura was born on Jan. 6, 1907, to Anton and Viktoria (Kaplan) Vokoun in Quarry. Her early school years were at Quarry, then to Sioux City to live with her sister Emily to attend high school. She graduated from Sioux City High School with a teachers certificate, then returned to Marshalltown and took bookkeeping course at the Business College. She had bookkeeping work in Marshalltown until her marriage to Floyd Roberts on Dec. 27, 1942. They lived in Newton. She worked at Newton Manufacturing while Floyd was in Service. They had no children. Floyd passed away April 22, 1968. Laura continued to live in Newton until 1985 when she moved to Marshalltown. She loved to read, play cards, bake, sew, and crochet. When health began to fail she lived with her sister Martha until entering the nursing home in 2008.
Laura will be missed by her sister, Martha Shibe, of Marshalltown; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
