Maria Garcia-Moreno of Marshalltown worked hard on the re-election campaign for President Barack Obama. On Dec. 12, Garcia-Moreno and her mother, Martha Garcia, reaped the rewards for her work.
The pair was invited to a holiday reception at the White House featuring the president and First Lady Michelle Obama.
"We had a great time," Garcia-Moreno said.

The decorations for the holidays at the White House are legendary, and the Garcias got to soak them in along with the best in hospitality.
"The people treated you really good, and it was beautiful," Martha Garcia said.
The Garcias also had an opportunity to take part in a briefing on Dec. 14 and were able to talk immigration and health care reform with Michelle Obama.
They weren't the only ones from the table enjoying holiday cheer with the president. Rep. Mark Smith, D-Marshalltown, was invited to a holiday reception on Dec. 7 at the White House and took his wife, Karen Lischer.
"It was an incredible experience," Smith said. "I'm sure it will be the only time in my life I will have that opportunity."
Aside from the reception and meeting people from all over the country, the holiday decorations at the White House were eye-popping for Smith.
"It was fantastic," Smith said. "Every room was incredibly decorated."
