It's been nearly two months since the bell began to toll again in the clock tower at the Marshall County Courthouse. The bell was brought back to life thanks to a decision from the Board of Supervisors.

Board Chairman Denny Grabenbauer said the return of the toll has been well received.

"We're happy with it," Grabenbauer said. "I know some people wish it was a little louder, but it doesn't appear to disturb anybody."

The new hammer on the right was installed on the bell in the clock tower in the Marshall County Courthouse at the end of October, which brought the ringing back.

The project to attach a new hammer on the 1900 bell cost the county $3,800. The bell had been silent for at least 10 years and now rings on the hour.

Grabenbauer said it's especially nice to be outside at noon and be able to hear the courthouse bell ring along with area church bells downtown.

"They are neat to hear together," he said.

Future years are expected to include more work on the clock tower including fixing the clock hands themselves and other work.
