An investigation into the whereabouts of a stolen Bobcat skid loader that began in November has made progress after police arrested a local man for allegedly having the stolen property in his possession.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office charged Kyle Mulinex, 26, of Dubuque, with possession of stolen property, a Class C felony, after he allegedly had the $40,000 machine in his possession, said Marshall County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Burt Tecklenburg.
Mulinex turned himself in Wednesday morning on a warrant issued Nov. 22.
On Nov. 8, a patrol deputy spotted the stolen skid loader on the back of a pickup truck driving on the highway east of Liscomb, Tecklenburg said. The deputy followed the truck to the home of Mulinex's parents on the 1200 block of Oaks Avenue and determined the skid loader was the same one reported stolen from Home Rental, 603 S. Sixth St., on Oct. 24.
The incident report also lists a B&B trailer as having been stolen. That report listed the estimated value of both the trailer and the Bobcat at $48,000.
Mulinex made his initial appearance Wednesday morning, and the court released him under the supervision of the Department of Corrections provided he check in with the court in within 24 hours to sign a pre-trial release. His preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 14.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, Tecklenburg said he didn't anticipate police to file any more charges or arrest anyone else in relation to the crime unless a substantial amount of new evidence becomes know.
