A portion of East Main Street near Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center was shut down Thursday afternoon when a medical helicopter malfunctioned on the road after landing to pick up a patient.
The air ambulance was unable to land at the hospital's regular landing area due to another helicopter already being there, so it had to land on Main Street.
It malfunctioned and was unable to take back off again, which led to the closing of a portion of the road.

An air ambulance helicopter stalled on East Main Street Thursday afternoon near Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center causing a portion of the road to be closed.
Marshalltown Police were already on the scene and helped with the road closure when the helicopter landed.
"We were initially called in because they had two helicopters landing at the same time," said Capt. Mike Hanken of the MPD. "This was a unique circumstance."
Hanken said a repair technician was called in from Des Moines to work on the helicopter.
