Alumni who have competed at the Marshalltown High School Roundhouse are invited to be recognized during halftime of the Feb. 1 boys’ basketball game as the facility starts its renovation fundraising.
This reunion event is also serving as a kickoff for the fundraising of the upcoming Roundhouse renovation project, as the 1965 building is set for a facelift.
"We wanted to get as many of the former student athletes involved in the excitement of the project," said Tim Bell, MHS athletic director. "We felt it would be nice to have a good activity to pull the community together."
The current renovation plan includes an estimated $9.1 million worth of work on the structure. Another $4 million portion of the project is expected to be funded by donations, so those looking to help out with the project can learn more at the reunion event. Bell said he has sensed some excitement from alumni for the event and looks forward to hearing stories of the past.
"We want to share great moments of the past and the excitement of the future," he said.
Bell said he's not sure how many former athletes will return, but he hopes to have a crowded floor when they are honored during the basketball game.
The varsity girls will play Ames at 6:15 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 1.
Alumni are also invited to Legends American Grill after the games for a gathering.
