Floyd's love for nature, animals, traveling and family made him an excellent Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and helped numerous scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, including his son Kurt. His schoolmates nicknamed him Toyboy and the name stuck due to his constant tinkering with toys, mechanical objects and projects he did around the house.
