GIRLS BASKETBALL: Spartans off to unbeaten start halfway through NICL

GRUNDY CENTER - The Class 1A No. 8-ranked Grundy Center girls' basketball team completed the first half of its NICL West Division schedule unbeaten after blistering BCLUW 64-27 on Friday night.

The Spartans (9-2, 7-0) got a game-high 23 points from Sam Meyers, while Heather Hook contributed 13 points and Katie Lindeman had 11. Riley Ackerman chipped in with eight points for Grundy Center, which hosts last year's conference champion South Tama on Tuesday night.

Olivia Callaway had team-highs of 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists for BCLUW (1-9, 0-7). Kendall Scurr added seven points and four steals, while Mallory Vawter had four points and four boards.

The Comets return to action today on the road at Hudson.

West Marshall 66, South Hardin 33

STATE CENTER - Three players scored in double figures as West Marshall doubled up South Hardin, 66-33, in Friday's NICL West contest.

Rachel Freland had a game-high 16 points for West Marshall (9-3, 6-1). Whitney Benson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, while Jennifer Davis had 11 points and seven boards. Sydney Beals added seven points, and McKenna Hotopp had six points and six assists.

Julie Schwartz led South Hardin (4-7, 3-4) with 10 points and Claire Damon added nine.

West Marshall goes to Gilbert today.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck 77, East Marshall 54

LE GRAND - Eleven different players scored as Gladbrook-Reinbeck notched a season-high point total with Friday's 77-54 win over NICL West foe East Marshall.

Emily Snider led the Rebels with 15 points, Amber Berendes had a season-high 12 and Britney Keller added 10. Nicole Adair added eight points and Hayley Weber seven for G-R (3-7, 2-5), which hosts South Hardin on Tuesday.

East Marshall (2-9, 1-6) led 16-12 after one quarter but got outscored 65-38 the rest of the way. Ashley Allen had a game-high 18 points to go with six rebounds for the Mustangs. Katie Roseland had 10 points and six boards, Kristen Amendt scored nine points, and Meriel Leavy charted seven points and eight rebounds. Paige Miller had six assists.

East Marshall hosts Class 1A No. 14 Colo-NESCO in a non-conference clash today.

Tripoli 47, GMG 28

TRIPOLI - A fast start faded away for GMG as the Wolverines succumbed to Tripoli, 47-28, in Friday's Iowa Star Conference contest.

GMG led 12-4 after the first quarter but fell behind by halftime, 20-19. Tripoli outscored the Wolverines 27-9 in the second half to capture the win.

Ashlen Damm led the Panthers (4-5, 3-5) with 13 points and Kaitlin Westendorf added nine.

GMG (0-11, 0-8) got a team-high nine points from Cheyenne Wurr. Olivia Barritt had five points and nine rebounds, while Mikaella Koster and Peyton Mannan added four points apiece.
