Runners typically like it cool for a race, but this will be going a little overboard.
The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Chamburrrrr Scurry 5K run at 9 a.m. Jan. 26 at the cross country course at Marshalltown Community College.
Lynn Olberding, vice president of the chamber, said they wanted to have a way for people to get healthy for the New Year and also said there is a lack of competition with other 5K runs during this time, which spawned this unique mid-winter idea.

So far, people are signing up and looking forward to having some frigid fun all bundled up.
"We have had a great response thus far and anticipate a lot of people will wait to see the weather forecast for January 26 before signing up," Olberding said. "It's going to be a lot of fun, and we look forward to seeing everyone bundled up in their winter gear."
One of those runners ready to brave the elements later this month is Jeff Badger, who works at US Bank in Marshalltown.
"To me, I've never done a 5K in January," Badger said. "It does get people talking and it should be fun."
The cross country course will be tested to make sure of its safety prior to the run.
"Our primary focus is making sure the course is safe for participants," Olberding said. "The course may be snowy, and people will certainly want to be careful, but we have plans to make it safe and enjoyable for everyone."
Early bird registrations are accepted through Jan. 18 and are $17 for students 18 and under and $20 for adults.
Registration is $30 for everyone postmarked after Jan. 19. Registration is available online at www.marshalltown.org/5k.
There will also be a wellness fair from 8:30 a.m to 1 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Student Activity Center at the college, which is open to the public. For more information on the run, call the chamber office at 641-753-6645.
