PERRY - The Class 1A No. 5-ranked West Marshall wrestling team took second place at the Perry Tournament on Saturday behind a trio of first-place finishers.
Kyle Blocker (138 pounds), Jared Johnson (145) and Tanner Arnold (152) won their respective brackets to lead the Trojans to 203 team points, which trailed only Dowling Catholic's 262 in the 12-team event.
West Marshall totaled 11 placewinners and went 3-3 in the championship round.
Blocker, ranked first in 1A, improved to 34-0 this season with three wins. The first two came by fall and the third was a 7-5 decision over 2A No. 8-ranked Seth Stetzel of Perry.
Johnson (26-7) and No. 6-ranked Arnold (27-2) both won by decision in the title match. Johnson defeated Kaid Bruce of Riceville/St. Ansgar, 4-1, and Arnold was a 2-1 overtime winner against Perry's Jackson VanKirk.
Cole Needham (28-5) reached the 113-pound finals before losing a major decision to Dowling's 3A No. 8-rated Jonah Eide, 15-4. Sixth-ranked Dale Hilleman lost in overtime to Dowling's sixth-ranked Isaiah Patton, 8-7, at 160, while Brandon Overman (20-10) was pinned in the 182 finals by Dowling's Reed Flood.
Devin Chesler placed third at 160 for the Trojans, while Chad Berrey (132) and Christopher Sjoblom (195) finished fourth.
