Evelyn Brown 92, of Laurel, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the State Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the State Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Evelyn was born March 26, 1920, to Lionel and Enid (Ralls) Smith in Plevna, Mo. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1940. Evelyn was united in marriage to Ralph Brown on Nov. 16, 1940, in Shelbyville, Mo. He died March 5, 2003. She was a homemaker. Evelyn was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the women's club of Laurel. Evelyn loved crocheting, knitting, gardening and yard work. She was a wonderful cook.
Evelyn will be missed by two sons; Bill (Nancy) Brown, of Des Moines, and Ken (Donna) Brown, of Osage Beach, Mo.; four grandchildren: Beth (Chris) Thornton, Mike (Jessie) Brown, Michelle (Gary) Sherzan, Brandon (Darci) Brown; 12 great grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Basham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; three brothers: Ken, Sid and John Smith; two sisters, Helen Perrigo and Margaret, in infancy.
