BOYS BASKETBALL: Boerm breaks 1,000, Redhawks rough up Don Bosco

TRAER - Jacob Wrage matched Joe Breakenridge's school record with seven 3-pointers and Mitchell Boerm broke 1,000 points for his career as the North Tama boys' basketball team trounced Don Bosco 80-35 in Iowa Star Conference play Friday night.

Wrage finished with a season-high 23 points and six assists, Boerm totaled 16 points and nine rebounds, Dalton Hulme had 14 points and Paul Kaufmann 12 as the Redhawks (15-1, 12-0) made a school record 13 3-pointers.

Travis Havel led Don Bosco (7-6, 7-5) with 11 points.

Meskwaki 62, GMG 55

GARWIN - Corey Dye had a game-high 16 points, Royce Timberwolf had 15 and Demarce Keahna 10 as the Meskwaki boys gained a season split with GMG, 62-55, in Iowa Star Conference play.

The Warriors (8-7, 6-6) had to hold off a late comeback by GMG, which outscored Meskwaki 18-6 in the fourth quarter to slim the final margin.

Luke Petty had 13 points, Brock Fisher 12 and Chad Plaehn 10 to pace the host Wolverines (8-7, 7-5). Blake Warren had a team-high 14 rebounds, Petty added eight and Plaehn had seven more.

West Marshall 60, BCLUW 46

CONRAD - Three players scored in double figures and the West Marshall boys' basketball team won its 44th straight NICL West Division game, getting past BCLUW 60-46 on Friday night.

Duncan Ferch tallied 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals to lead the Trojans (14-2, 11-0), who won their eighth straight overall. Jake Pszanka had 12 points and four steals, while Colby Dunn had 12 points as well. Clayton Green contributed eight points and five boards, and Matt Van Metre also had eight points.

Wyatt Gunderson scored a team-leading 11 points for BCLUW (2-11, 1-10), which sustained its sixth loss in a row. Cole Silver had nine points, Ben Neff added eight and Conner Ubben six.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck 58, Grundy Center 46

GRUNDY CENTER - Jacob Smoldt scored a season-high 16 points as Gladbrook-Reinbeck won its sixth straight NICL West Division game, beating Grundy Center 58-46 in Friday's Coaches vs. Cancer contest.

Zach Pierce had 16 points and five rebounds, and Camden Kickbush had 15 points and five assists for the Rebels (10-2, 10-1). Smoldt had a team-high six rebounds.

Dylan Lyman knocked down 13 points to pace Grundy Center (4-11, 3-8). Lane Bangasser had nine points, Brady Hook had eight points and seven rebounds, and Ryon Appel and Elliot Eggleston added six points apiece.

AGWSR 57, East Marshall 48

ACKLEY - Josh Bagley scored a game-high 25 points to eclipse 1,000 for his career, and AGWSR withstood East Marshall's second-half surge for a 57-48 NICL West win.

Derek Schipper added nine points and Owen Abkes had seven for the Cougars (10-4, 8-3), who led 24-9 at the half.

East Marshall (2-13, 2-9) outscored AGWSR 39-33 in the second half, including a 24-16 third quarter in which the Mustangs got as close as four.

Ben Terrones had 19 points and seven rebounds for East Marshall, while Nate DeBondt had a season-high 12. Mitch Berry added nine points and Josh Wilson had six points and a team-leading eight rebounds in the Mustangs' fourth straight loss.
